Nellie O. Hadley Brown


 

   Nellie O. Hadley Brown, age 85, of Dubre, died at her residence Monday, December 25, 2017.

   Born April 8, 1932 in Marrowbone, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Nettie Cooksey Hadley. She was the wife of Robert Brown, who survives. They were married 57 years.

   She had retired from Osh Kosh, worked at Metcalfe Co nursing home, farmed, and was a housewife.  She was a member of the Willowshade Church of Christ.

   Survivors other than her husband include two daughters, Carla Fudge, Beaumont, and Lisa Gearlds, Edmonton; one sister in law, Violet Hadley; two grandchildren, Chasidy Matney and Katelyn Gearlds; and two great grandchildren, Liberty Brockman and RaeLynn  Matney.

   Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Robert Brown; two sisters, Lucy Mosby and Katheryn Shaw; and three brothers, Howard Hadley, Kermit Hadley, and Ed Hadley.

   Funeral services will be Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home with Brother Gary Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Dutch Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 27, 2017, 1:00-8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, after 7:00 a.m. until time of services.

Barbara Ann Meron




   Barbara Ann Meron, age 74, of  Edmonton, died Monday, December 25, 2017 at T J Samson Hospital.

   She was a of the late John and Geraldine Brown Ruano.

   She worked in the car rental business and was a Christian.

   Survivors include one daughter Gina Teresa Putnam, Edmonton; one sister Shirley Auger, California; and one sister in law Paulette Yates.

   Besides her parents she was preceded in death by the father of her child Dennis Meron.

   No viewing or visitation will be held as cremation was chosen.

   McMurtrey Funeral Home is assisting the family.

JAMES LEE WHITE


   James Lee White, age 78, of Summer Shade, died Thursday, December 15, 2017 at Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington, KY.

   Born January 19, 1939 in Edmonton, he was a son of the late Clure Douglas and Kathleen Martin White.

   He was a truck driver and an Army veteran.
   Survivors include one daughter Lesa (Chris) Lopeman, TX; one son Greg White, Summer Shade; one step daughter, Sue Barone, Chicago; 5 grandchildren Jesse Ray White, Taylor Jean White, Harley Jean White, Nyssa Lopeman, and Raistlin Lopeman; 5 step grandchildren Tracy Murphy, Teresa Jones, Phillip Jones Jr, Shaun Murphy, and Josh Barone; several great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Stewart, Edmonton; and one half sister Josephine Harper, Edmonton.

   Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one step daughter, Patricia White and one sister Shirley White.

    Funeral services will be Monday, December 18, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, December 17, 2017, 1:00-8:00 p.m. and on Monday, December 18, 2017 after 7:00 a.m. until time of services.

STANLEY DWAYNE "HUCK" HUCKELBY




   Stanley Dwayne “Huck” Huckelby, age 63, of Dubre, died Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at his residence.

   Born May 3, 1954 in Burkesville, KY, he was a son of the late Stanley Ewing Huckelby and Loretta Mae Garmon Huckelby, Dubre, who survives. He is also survived by his wife of 29 years, Marilyn Scott Huckelby.

   He worked at Donnelly’s for 28 years, and was a member of the Marrowbone Baptist Church.

   Survivors, in addition to his wife and mother, include one daughter Melissa Ann (David) Fletcher, Burkesville; two sons, Jesse (Katherine) Huckelby, Marrowbone and Todd (Sara) Huckelby, Dubre; one step daughter Elesha (Bill) Butler, Rineyville, KY; 10 grandchildren, Katie Fletcher, Elizabeth Sewell, William Huckelby, Mariah Huckelby, Jesse Kyle Huckelby, Natalie Huckelby, Briar Huckelby, Keeley Butler, Andrew Butler, and Peyton Butler.

   Funeral services will be Friday, December 15, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home with Brother Elvin Milam and Brother Darrell Bartley officiating. Burial will follow in the Marrowbone Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, December 14, 2017, 2:00-9:00 p.m. and on Friday, December 15, 2017, after 7:00 a.m. until time of services.

L.E.Clark


  L.E. (Cowboy) Clark, age 78 of Summer Shade died December 8, 2017 at T. J. Samson Community Hospital.

  He was born in St. John Missouri and was a son of the late Charles Edward and Nellie Wadkins Clark.

  He was a test driver at the Corvette plant in Bowling Green and of the Baptist faith.

  He is survived by four daughters Cheryl (Rob) Yankey of Springhill, TN, Kay (Kenneth) Renner of Schuein, IL. , Veronica Clark of Tn., Regina Warren of Louisville eight sons Rick Hubert of Summer Shade, Mike (Charlotte) Hubert of Glasgow, Donald (Carolyn) Hubert and Ronald Hubert of Walsh Il:.Jerry (Zenimar) Hubert of Wentzville Missouri, Charles (Dawn) Clark of Springfield OH. Jessie Clark of Louisville and Ethan (Kristyn) Clark of Glasgow. He is also survived by his beloved companion Bertha Hiser and honorary daughter Sydney.

  He is also survived by three sisters Alice Waters of Talladega, AL, Patsy (Willie) Myers of Gladewater. TX and Becky (Carlos) Ollison of Waco, TX, thirty four grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren.

  In addition to his parents he was preceeded in death by his wife Mary Lou Patterson Clark, one son Edward Lynn Clark, one daughter Tina Marie Ifland, one grandson Bobby Hubert brothers and sisters Nokie Linley, Joyce Kelly, Susan Green, Hazel Roach, Shirley Roseman, Marie Williams  Paul, Reginald, Carl Clark and Charles Dougherty

  Funeral services will be Tuesday December 12, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at the McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Union #2 Cemetery.

  Visitation will be Monday December 11, 2017 from 2:00 till 8:00 P.M. and after 7:00 A.M. on Tuesday till time of service.

LAURE LYNN RICHARDSON RAY




   Laure Lynn Richardson Ray, age 76, of Edmonton, died Friday, November 17, 2017, at Metcalfe County Health Care.

   Born December 27, 1940 in Corpus Christi, TX, she was a daughter of the late Burl and Sylvia Schaefer Richardson and the widow of Dean Ray.

   She was a nurse and of the Baptist faith.

   Survivors include two daughters, Becky Murray, Glasgow and Diana (Mike) Shive, Summer Shade; one son Tony Jones, Lincoln NE; one brother Frank  (Jo Anne) Richardson, Lubbock, TX; six grandchildren Tamara (Jamie) Hollinsworth, Tompkinsville, Miranda (Chris) Scott, Mt Hermon, Chrystal (David) Carson, Tompkinsville, McKenzie Jones, Lincoln NE, Brandon Sorensen, IL, Brennon Windskill, IL; and  five  great grandchildren, Brailynn Turner, Karleigh Hollinsworth, Maddox Sorensen, Charleigh Windskill and Zane Carson.

   Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son Danny Jones and the father of her children Carl D Jones Jr.

   Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, November 20, 2017, 3:00-8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday after 7:00 a.m. until time of services.

STEPHEN BENNETT HURT




   Stephen Bennett Hurt, age 32, died Sunday, November 5, 2017.

   Born April 15, 1985 in Glasgow, he was a son of Steve and Tammy Boston Hurt, who survive and the husband of Brandie Jessie Hurt and the father of Matthew and Wesley Hurt, who also survive.

   He was a diesel mechanic and of the Baptist faith.

   Survivors in addition to his parents, wife and sons, include two sisters, Angela Hurt Wells  and Heather Hurt; one brother Kevin Hurt; father and mother in law, Jerry and Jackie Jessie; one uncle, Tim Boston; one aunt, Sandra Garmon; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

   He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oscar and Annie Hurt and Ernest and Elizabeth Boston; one uncle, Keith Hurt, and one aunt, Julie Garmon.

   Funeral services will be Thursday, November 9, 2017, at 12:00 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home, with Brother Mike Shrum, officiating. Burial will follow in the Buckley Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 8, 2017, 3:00-8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, after 7:00 a.m. until time of services.

DORIS LEE GERON SMITH




   Doris Lee Geron Smith, age 82, of Crawfordsville, IN formerly of Summer Shade, died Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, IN.

    Born December 14, 1934 in Barren County, she was a daughter of the late John Edd and Ruby Lee Costello Geron and the widow of William Herbert Smith, who preceded her in death November 14, 2006.

   She was a nurse care worker and of the Baptist faith.

   Survivors include one son, Gregory (Virginia) Smith, New Carlisle, IN; one sister, Lovelle Clark, Fredonia, KY; eight grandchildren, Darrin Smith, Sandi Smith, Jeremy Smith, Joshua Smith, Jessica Smith, Johnathan Smith, Ruby Smith and Krystal Daniels; eight great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; daughter in law, Mara Smith; and the mother of two of her grandchildren, Patty Clawson.

   She was preceded in death besides her parents and husband by one son, Glenn Smith and two sisters Lucille Bragg and Junie Jones.

   Funeral services will be Sunday, November 5, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, November 5, 2017, 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 2:00 p.m.

SHERMAN T BOWLES

  
   Brother Sherman T. Bowles, age 90, of Glasgow, died Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Glenview Health Care Center in Glasgow.
   Born July 7, 1927 in Summer Shade, he was a son of the late Troy and Maude Taylor Bowles and the husband of Edith Hicks Bowles, who died January 16, 2007.
   He was a farmer, factory worker and a Methodist preacher and a member of Goodson Chapel Methodist Church. He was an Army veteran.
   Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Bowles Priddy, Glasgow; two grand daughters Gina Colter and Shelly Flood; three great grandchildren Taylor Dauray, Michela, and Shelby Colter; and one great great grandchild Easton Luke Colter.
    He was also preceded in death by four brothers Kenneth (Red), Joe, Harrison and Tommy Bowles and one sister Martha Tudor and one son in law Donnie Priddy
   Funeral services will be Wednesday November 1, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. at the McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Summer Shade Cemetery. 
   Visitation will be Tuesday October 31, 2017 from 11:00 till 4:00 at the McMurtrey Funeral Home.

CHARLES KNEIL FORD




   Charles Kneil Ford, age 84, Edmonton, died Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Metcalfe County Health Care Center.

   Born July 17, 1933, in Beaumont, KY, he was a son of the late Ike and Flora Wilson Ford, and the husband of Marilyn Ferguson Ford, Edmonton, who survives. They were married 61 years.

   He retired from SKF and was of the Church of Christ faith.  He was an Army veteran. He was a member of the Edmonton Masonic Lodge for 48 years.

   Survivors, in addition to his wife, include, one daughter Sherry (Dewayne) Pickett, Greensburg; two grandchildren, Tara Burks, Edmonton and Natasha Pickett, Lexington; and two great grandchildren, Iva Kate Blazier and Maddie Ervin, both of Edmonton.

   He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Fred Ford, and two sisters, Delsie Ballard and Dorothy Ford.

   Funeral services will be Sunday, October 29, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Metcalfe County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday, October 28, 2017, 4:00-8:00 and on Sunday after 8:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Masonic Rights will be at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2017.

   In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Edmonton Masonic Lodge.

SHIRLEY LEE PARKE




   Shirley Lee Parke, age 60, died Monday, October 9, 2017, at her residence.

   Born June 20, 1957 in Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Otha Donald Parke and Evie Pearl Hayes Parke, who survives.

    She worked as a Registered Nurse for 30 plus years and was a member of the Missionary Mound Baptist Church, since the age of 15. After her retirement she was a caregiver for two of her great nieces , Briale and Callee Lane.

   Survivors, in addition to her mother, include two brothers Jerry Donald (Lisa) Parke and Tommy J Parke, both of Summer  Shade; two nieces, Jenny (Johnathan) Heckel and Jessica Nicole Parke-Semon; one nephew Jeremy Lee Parke; and eight great nieces and nephews, Camron Parke,  Landon Heckel, Lucas Heckel, Aubrey Parke, Briale Lane, Callee Lane, Brailey Brown, and Priscillia Blanchard.  

   Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Missionary Mound Baptist Church, with Bro. Dale Copas and Bro. Richard Lile officiating. Burial will follow in the Missionary Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 10, 2017, 2:00-9:00 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home and on Wednesday, after 7:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home and after 9:00 a.m. at Missionary Mound Baptist Church until time of services.

   Reid Scott, age 68, of the Grider community, died Sunday, October 1, 2017, at The Medical Center in Albany.

   Born June 29, 1949 in Burkesville, KY, he was a son of the late Thomas and Joyce Norris Scott and the husband of Vickey Cash Scott, who survives. They were married 41 years.

   He was a self employed mechanic and of the Baptist faith.

   Survivors, other than his wife, include one daughter, Ashley Scott, Campbellsville; one son, Thomas Reid Scott II, Burkesville; five sisters, Carolyn Scott, Janet Scott, Linda Keen, Tammy Farlee, and Carol Cutshall, all of Burkesville; four brothers Dale Scott, Daryl Scott, David Scott, and Tommy Scott, all of Burkesville; and four grandchildren Thomas Reid Scott III, Garrett Clayton Scott, Gannon Kade Scott, and Peyton Reece Scott.

   He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by one daughter, Misty Michelle Scott, one brother Frankie Scott and one sister Elizabeth Scott.

   Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Grider cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 3, 2017 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, after 7:00 a.m. until time of services.

WILLIAM VEACHEL STARR


William Veachel Starr, age 98, of the 44 community of Barren County, passed away peacefully to his eternal home on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, surrounded by family and friends at his residence.

   Born April 27, 1919 in Nobob, he was a son of the late Louis Starr and Mattie E. Goode  Starr Shives, and the husband of Ruby Fields Starr, who survives. They were married for 69 years.

   He was a farmer and a member of Union # 2 Missionary Baptist Church since 1940.

   Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter,  Mary (Billy)  Baise, Glasgow; two sons, Larry (Linda) Starr, Marion, Ky and Jerry (Geneva) Starr, Glasgow; four grandchildren, Jason Starr, Zackary and Andrew Baise, all of Glasgow, and Sheila  (Chuck) Jones, Austin, Ky; and two great grandchildren, Gracie and Noah Jones, Austin, Ky,

   Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Jewell Simmons, Susie Garrett, Mary Nell Steen, and Gladys Simmons and two brothers, Robert Starr and Ray Starr.

   Funeral services will be Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.  at Union #2 Missionary Baptist Church, with Brother Berlon Roy officiating, burial will follow in the Poplar Log Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, September 29, 2017, at McMurtrey Funeral Home, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the funeral home from 8:00-10:30 am. and after 11:00 a.m. at the Union # 2 Church.

Robert Barkley England




   Robert Barkley England, age 78, of Tompkinsville, died Friday, September 22, 2017 at Signature Healthcare in Tompkinsville.

   Born August 15, 1938 in Tompkinsville, he was a son of the late Dewey and Ernie Wheat England and the husband of Carolyn Britt England, Tompkinsville, who survives.

   He was a farmer and a logger. He was a member of the Oak Hill Church of Christ.

   Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Leon (Brenda)  England, Roger England, and Jimmy (Stacy) England all of Tompkinsville; three step daughters, Melissa (Calvin) Jones, Tompkinsville, Pamela (John Pike) Ryherd, Ft. Run, and Sharon (Tony) Emberton, Summer Shade;  two step sons, Gregory Walker, Tompkinsville and Shannon (Crissy)  Walker, Bethlehem Community;  one sister, Jessie Dubree, Persimmon Community;  one brother, Corbin England, Tompkinsville: 9 grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

   Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Michael Eugene England.

   A memorial service will be held at a later date, as cremation was chosen.

    Homer Leroy Jennings, age 69, of Edmonton, died Sunday, September 10, 2017, at Green view Regional Hospital in Bowling Green, KY.

   Born August 5, 1948 in Glasgow, he was a son of Homer Lee and Lillian Lewis Jennings, Tompkinsville, who survive.

   He was a Baptist preacher.

   Survivors include several nieces and nephews: one sister in law, Juanita Jones:  one brother in law, David Chapman; one step sister, Linda Carter, IN; and two step brothers, Jerry Whitlock and Charles Whitlock, IN

   He was preceded in death by one brother, Dearil Jones, one sister, Patricia Jester and one step sister Mary Whitlock.

   Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home, with Brother Larry Noe officiating.  Burial will follow in the Beaumont Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 12, 2017, 4:00-8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, after 7:00 a.m.  until time of services.

Constance Ann Wilson Dubray


   Constance Ann Wilson Dubray, age 81, of Summer Shade, died Friday, September1, 2017, at Monroe County Medical Center.
   Born March 19, 1936 in Granville, Vermont, she was a daughter of the late Frank Willie and Myrtle Bell Stone Wilson. She was the widow of the late Thomas Edward Dubray.
   She was a housewife and a member of Corner Stone Church.
   Survivors include one daughter, Andrea Pecor, Edmonton; three sons, Allan Bryant Dubray, Colombia, Bill Dubray, Edmonton and Mike Dubray, Edmonton; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
   Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by five sisters and one brother.
   Graveside services will be Monday, September 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summer Shade Cemetery, with Bro Mark Parks officiating.

Bobby Lee Hubert

Bobby Lee Hubert, age 30 of Summer Shade died July 31, 2017.
He is survived by his parents Richard A. Hubert of Summer Shade and Sandy Hubert (Edwin) Dawdy of Franklin, one brother Ricky Hubert, Jr. of Summer Shade and step grandfather L.E. Clark of Summer Shade.
He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents.
 Bobby loved to hunt and fish.

CHRISTINE JONES SHIRLEY




   Christine Jones Shirley, age 90, of Cincinnati, OH, formerly of Knob Lick, died Tuesday, August 15, 2017 in Cincinnati.

   Born December 13, 1926 in Knob Lick, she was a daughter of the late Chester and Lula Clark Jones and the widow of Fred D. Shirley Sr.

   She joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church at an early age and became secretary. She was the retired owner operator of Shirley's Highlander laundry and dry cleaner.

   Survivors include one daughter, Nola L. Shirley Taylor and her husband Wendell of Cincinnati; three sons, William C. Shirley and wife Marsha, and Troye A Shirley, both of Cincinnati, and Grayling Shirley, Los Angeles, CA. seven grandchildren; seven Great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

   She was preceded in death, besides her parents and husband, by one son Fred D. Shirley Jr: one brother Sherman Jones; and one sister Kathleen Jones Stockton.

   Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, in Knob Lick, KY, with Pastor Ronnie Bryant, officiating. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, August 21, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 pm at the McMurtrey Funeral Home and on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:00.

   Danny Joe Perkins, age 69, of Summer Shade, died Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at his residence.

   Born July 4, 1948 in Glasgow, KY, he was a son of the late Calvin Hartzell and Ernestine Rigsby Perkins.

   He was a farmer and a retired self employed mechanic. He was a member of the Goodson Chapel Methodist Church.

   Survivors include one daughter, Tina (Michael) Blackburn, Glasgow; one son, Tim (Melissa) Perkins, Summer Shade; two brothers, Larry (Margaret) Perkins, Glasgow and Mike Perkins, FL; five grandchildren, Colton Satterly, Tanner Perkins, Kyle Roach, Jonah and Ben Blackburn; his former wife, Cheryl Perkins; one step daughter, Tiffany (David) Matthews, Summer Shade; and two step  grandchildren, Kennon and Lulu Matthews.

   Funeral services will be Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Goodson Chapel Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Summer Shade Cemetery. Anis Pearl Ritter Parrish




   Anis Pearl Ritter Parrish, age 84, of Glasgow, formerly of Beaumont, died Monday, July 24, 2017 at T J Samson Hospital.

   Born March 17, 1933, in Kino, she was a daughter of the late Corbin and Lillie Peers Ritter and the widow of the late Dallas Cotton Parrish.

   She was a factory worker and a member of the Refuge Church of Christ.

   Survivors include three sisters, Joyce Shaw and Vonda (Charlie) Oliver, both of Glasgow, and Glenda Gassaway, Smithville, TN.; one brother, Leroy Ritter, Glasgow; one sister in law, Alene Ritter, Glasgow; and several nieces and nephews.

   She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by four sisters, Ruth England,  Alyne Smith,  Betty New and Velma Hurt; and one brother, Willie D Ritter.

   Funeral services will be Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the McMurtrey Funeral Home, with Bro Gary Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Beaumont Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 26, 2017,   from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, July 27, after 7:00 a.m. until time of services.

   Tammy Denise Gibson Ballard, age 50, of Edmonton, died Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at University of Louisville Hospital.

   Born June 19, 1967 in Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Rance Ford Ballard Jr and Dena Sue Hurt Ballard, Summer Shade, who survives.

   She was a housewife and a Christian.

   Survivors, in addition to her mother, include two daughters, Deanna (Christopher) Riley Waid, Beauford, South Carolina and Alexandria Riley, Edmonton; one son, Brian (Nikki) Ballard, Edmonton; one brother, Tim (Sonya) Ballard, Beaumont; four grandchildren, Shane Austin, Zaven Ballard, Xaria Ballard, and Mahaley Ballard; and two nephews, Dakota and Montana Ballard.

   Funeral services will be Friday, June 30, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home, with Brother Terry Thrasher officiating. Burial will follow in Metcalfe County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday, June 29, 2017, 3:00-8:00 p.m. and on Friday, June 30, 2017 after 7:00 a.m. until time of services at 1:00.

Jean Catherine Lottner Hartman


Jean Catherine (Lottner) Hartman, age 77 of Summer Shade died June 19, 2017 at TJ Samson hospital.



She was born in Pontiac, Michigan to the late Harold and Glenadine Brady Hartman.

She was a phlebotomist before retirement and of the Christian faith.



She is survived by one daughter Penny (Dwayne) Langham of Summer Shade and one son Bradley Joseph Hartman of Florida. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one sister Doris Aldrich of Michigan.



In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William Howard Hartman and one sister Linda.



A private family burial will be held at Mrs. Hartman’s request.

Evie Janell Moore

Evie Janell Moore, age 79, of Louisville died Saturday, June 17,2017 at Hosparus Inpatient Care Centers in Louisville, KY.
She was born in Tompkinsville,KY on January 13,1938. She was the Daughter of the late Ray England and Nettie Jane Birge.
And was preceded in death by her husband Loyd E. Moore.
She is survived by one son Tim (Dottie) Moore and one daughter Tammy (Steve Ritchey) Centers both of Louisville;five grandchildren; 10 great grandchilren;
five sisters, Dorene(Bob) Hard of Scottsville, Nancy McIntyre of Summer Shade, Linda Long of Indianapolis, Brenda(Dale) Moore of Tompkinsville and
Sondra(Tony) Richey of Temple Hill; and several in-laws, nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers: Bob,Kelly,Shelly, and Harold Birge; one sister: Mary Lena Birge.
Cremation was chosen, and a Celebration of Life will be held July 16,2017 time 12 p.m at Cedar Springs V.F.D on Hwy 252, Scottsville Ky 42164

   Matthew Casey House, age 43, of Summer Shade, died Friday, June 16, 2017, at his residence.

   Born July 11, 1973, in Texas, he was a son of Mike and Ann Rice House, Summer Shade, who survive and the husband of Kim Contreras House, who survives.

   He had worked at Kingsford Mfg. and of the Catholic faith.

   Survivors in addition to his wife and parents, include two sons, Michael Casey House, Summer Shade and Mathew Cody House, Edmonton; one sister Mikah House, Rusk, TX; and two brothers Cody House, TX and Chris House, CA.

   A memorial service will be held later, as cremation was chosen.

Michael Wayne Travis


Michael Wayne Travis, age 55 of Summer Shade died May 24, 2017 at T J Samson hospital in Glasgow after a brief illness.

He was born in Little Rock Arkansas to the late Bill Travis and Annette Thompson Travis Cummings who survives.

In addition to his mother he is survived by one daughter Michelle Travis of California, Three brothers Bill Travis and Terry (Carolyn) Travis of Summer Shade and Garry (Diane) Travis of Glasgow.

A memorial service will be held at a later date as cremation was chosen.

LITTLE NELL WALKER FERNANDEZ


Little Nell Walker Fernandez, age 80, of Glasgow, died Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Diversicare of Glasgow.

   Born September 18, 1936, in Nobob, KY, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Jackson and Iola Bernice Wilborn Walker.

   She was a homemaker and a member of the Antioch Church of Christ. 

   She is survived by one daughter Vicki Jessie Nason Compton and her husband Mark, Cave City, KY; two brothers Robert (Shirley) Walker, Elizabethtown and Oren Walker, Glasgow; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

   She was preceded in death, besides her parents by her husband Joe Fernandez, by two sisters Cordelia Walden and Imogene Westmoreland and one brother Ivan Walker.

   Funeral services will be Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the McMurtrey Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the White Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday, May 19, from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and on Saturday after 8:00 a.m. until time of services.

Amy Jewell Cyphers Adams




   Amy Jewell Cyphers Adams, age 92, of Summer Shade, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at NHC in Glasgow.

   Born September 21, 1924, in Burkesville, Kentucky she was a daughter of the late George Tracy and Vestie Colson Cyphers and the widow of the late Billie Adams, who died September 6, 1997.

    She retired from Eli Lilly in Indianapolis, IN and was a member of the Cyclone Church of Christ.

  Survivors, include one daughter, Pam (Ronnie) Ferguson, Red Boiling Springs, TN; one son, Mike (Debbie) Adams, Lenoir City, TN; three grandsons, Christopher Michael and Stephan Ryan, both of Knoxville, TN and Billy Ralph Ferguson, Red Boiling Springs, TN; and five great grandchildren, Chandler Seth Reece and Haley, Nicholas, Hunter and Hayden Adams.

   She was preceded in death by one grand daughter, Amy Dean Ferguson; two brothers, Bill and Barlow Cyphers; three sisters, Ruby Smith, Magdeline Wright and Ida Belle Simpson; and one half brother Kelly Cyphers.

   Funeral services will be Friday, May 5, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the McMurtrey Funeral Home, with Brother Larry Hafley officiating. Burial will follow in the Scott Cemetery in Cumberland County. Visitation will be Friday, May 5, 2017 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., time of the service.

PHILIP CURTIS WHITLOW


   Philip Curtis Whitlow, Summer Shade, age 89 passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017 in his home surrounded by his family.

   Philip was the first child born to the late John McKinnley and Jewell Cletus James Whitlow of the Randolph community. Philip married his childhood sweetheart, May Dell Cummins Whitlow, who survives, to whom he was a devoted husband for 62 years, and father to their five children. Together, they raised their family and farmed in the Randolph community.

   Their children include one daughter, Ann (Peter) Acree, Randolph; four sons, Jesse (Gale Pate) Whitlow,  Paul Whitlow, and Sam Whitlow all of Randolph, and David Whitlow (John Scheller, special friend) Evansville, IN; two brothers Preston and Jackie Whitlow, both of Scottsville; one sister, Linda Dick, Scottsville; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Special caregivers along the way were Deana Dodson, Angie McCoy, Angela Buckland and Crystal Hutton.

   He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ettie Marie Compton, Eva Nell Hargis, and Annie Jewell Rigsby, one sister-in-law, Earlene Whitlow and three brothers-in-laws Pete Compton, Jim Hargis and Hughie Rigsby.

   Funeral services will be Saturday, April 22, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at the McMurtrey Funeral Home, with Gary Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Randolph. Visitation will be Friday, April 21, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, April 22, 2017, after 8:00 a.m. until time of services.

Otis Taylor Turner


  Otis Taylor Turner, age 92 of Bowling Green, Ky., formerly of Marrowbone, died April 19, 2017 at home.

   He was born in Marrowbone, Ky. to the late James Elvin and Lola Ann Norris Turner.

   He was a WWII Veteran and of the Baptist faith. He worked in California most of his adult life working in the aircraft industry.

   He is survived by two daughters Deborah Turner of Glasgow and Patsy Turner of Ventura, California, and one son James Turner and wife Bobbie of Bowling Green.

   He is also survived by7 grandchildren, Brian, Michael, Jeffrey, Ricky, Mikel, Chris and Jason and 7 great grand children.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Opal Jewell Capps Turner, one son Larry Turner, three sisters Pearl Smith, Hazel Thomas, Grace Muse and one brother Ed Turner.

  Funeral services will be Monday, April 24, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Franklin cemetery.

  Visitation will begin Sunday April 23, 2017 from 1:00 till 7:00 pm and after 7:00 am on Monday till service time of 1:00.

   Charles William Isenberg, age 91, of Summer Shade, died Thursday, April 13, 2017, at T J Samson Hospital.

   Born December 12, 1925 in Edmonton, he was a son of the late Lanos and Ruby Jewel Garmon Isenberg and the husband of Emogene Crumpton Isenberg, who survives. They were married 69 ½ years.

   He was a farmer and school bus driver. He was a deacon at the Summer Shade Missionary Baptist Church.

   Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter Becky (John) Coulter, Glasgow; one son Joe Neal (Michelle) Isenberg, PA; three grandchildren, Chris Isenberg, Burkesville, Brian Isenberg, Franklin, Ky, and Krista Isenberg, Nashville, TN; one great grandchild, Headon Isenberg; and one step great grandchild, Alex Isenberg.

   Funeral services will be Monday, April 17, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the Summer Shade Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Summer Shade Cemetery.

   He is survived by one son Orlando Ray (Lisa) Tyree, Louisville; two sisters, Maxine Compton and Shirley Mays; and one grandchild Makayla Miller.

Ollie Terry Denham, age 71, of Glasgow, died Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green.

   Born April 13, 1945 in Glasgow, he was a son of the late Mary Alice Lewis and Creed Denham, and the husband of Patsy Matthews Denham, who survives. They were married 53 years.

   He was a finish carpenter and a farmer. He was of the Pentecostal faith and a veteran of the Air Force.

   Survivors other than his wife, include one son, Greg Denham, Summer Shade; one sister Arlene (Danny) Vincent, Sweeden, Ky; and one brother Harold (Sharon) Denham, Glasgow.

   Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at 1:00 p.m.  at the McMurtrey Funeral Home, with Reverend Jim Adkins officiating, burial will follow in the Summer Shade Cemetery.    Iler James Curtis, age 85, of Ft. Run, Kentucky died at his residence Wednesday, March 22, 2017.

   Born January 11, 1932 in Cadiz, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Arva Mason and Vallie Alice McAlister Curtis.

   Survivors include one daughter Sherry (Ray) Chester, Indiana; one son Steve Curtis, Florida; two grandchildren Christina and Amy; and four great grandchildren, Alyson, Lucy, Cole and Emma.

   He was preceded in death besides his parents, by his wife Betty Curtis, and eight brothers and sisters.

   Nell Young Mayes, age 85, of the Lone Star Ridge community of Metcalfe County, died February 28, 2017, at her residence.

   Born May 10, 1931 in Edmonton, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Rissie Ellen Froedge and Hugh Carlos Young, and the widow of the late Roy Clemons Mayes.

   She was a housewife and of the Baptist faith.

   Survivors include two daughters, Carletta (Darrell) Price, Woodburn and Libby (Jerry) Blythe, Edmonton; five grandchildren, Angelia Blythe, Jeff (Ashley) Blythe, Chris (Courtney) Price, Julie (Kenny) Shirley, and Kelli (Gabe) Brown; and twelve great-grandchildren, Summer Shirley, Hannah Brown, Wyatt Blythe, Carson Brown, Julya Shirley, Anna Grace Blythe, Lily Kate Blythe, J R Brown, Tinsley Price, Lucy Blythe, Max Price, and Beau Blythe.

   Randall (Shorty) Lee Walker, age 76, of Beaumont, died Monday, February 27, 2017, at his residence.

   Born November 1, 1940, in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Luther and Emma Bushong Walker, and the husband of Judy Ann Stinson Walker who survives.

   He had retired from Anderson Forrest Products after working 47 years. He was of the Baptist faith.

  Survivors besides his wife, include two sons, Randy (April) Walker, Beaumont, and Joe Lee Walker, Tompkinsville; one step son Robbie (Cathy) Bush, Glasgow; and one step daughter, Melissa (Timmy) Young, Summer Shade; one grandson Luke Walker; and two step grand daughters Caleigh Self and Jordan Bratcher.

   He was preceded in death besides his parents, by three sisters, Nina Pearl Curtis, Julie Collins, and an infant sister and one brother Joe Eagle Walker.

   Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at 1:00 pm at the McMurtrey Funeral Home, with Bro Paul Davidson and Bro Stoney Morris officiating.    Dimple Marie Shaw Smith, age 90, of Summer Shade, died Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at Signature Healthcare, in Tompkinsville.

   Born July 8, 1926, in Dubre, Kentucky she was the widow of the late Othie Smith.

   She was a retired cook for the Metcalfe County School system and of the Methodist faith.

   Survivors include one son, Wayne (Bonnie) Smith, Summer Shade; four step grandchildren, Sarah (Brandon) Jones, Sandy Bailey, Jennfer (Dewayne) Neal, and Gary (Judith) Smith, all of Center; and 9 step great grandchildren.

   She was preceded in death besides her husband and parents, by two half sisters and four half brothers.

   Funeral services will be Friday, February 17, 2017, at 1:00 pm at the McMurtrey Funeral Home, with Brother Joe Wilcoxson officiating. Burial will follow in the Missionary Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 3:00-8:00 pm and on Friday after 7:00 until time of services.

      Ronnie B Whitlow, age 65, of Glasgow, died Monday, February 6, 2017, at Diversicare of Glasgow.

   Born January 21, 1952, in Shelby, IN, he was a son of the late Buford Reuben and Naomi Daughrty Whitlow, and the husband of Anita Pedigo Whitlow, who survives. They were married for 47 years.

   He was of the Baptist faith.

  Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter, Ronda (Todd) Sydnor, Scottsville; one son, Ryan (Dianna) Whitlow, Summer Shade; one sister Norma Collins, Lexington, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Stephen Dakota (Kymber) Sydnor, Matthew Thomas (Allison) Whitlow, and Ryanna Michael Whitlow; and two great grandchildren Kiara and Link Whitlow, and one expected in May.

   Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Puckett and Nancy Collins; and one grandchild Montanna Sydnor.

   Funeral services will be Saturday, February 11, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the Summer Shade Baptist Church with Bro Chad Harston, officiating. Burial will follow in the Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, February 10 from 11:00-8:00 at the Summer Shade Baptist Church and on Saturday after 8:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.

   Loyd Edwin Moore, age 79, of Louisville, died Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

   He was born in Tompkinsville, Kentucky on March 27, 1937. He was a son of the late Ernest Moore and Cloteel (Bybee) Moore, and the husband of Evie (Birge) Moore, who survives.

   Other than his wife, he is survived by one son Tim (Dottie) Moore and one daughter, Tammy (Steve Ritchie) Centers both of Louisville; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three brothers, Dale (Brenda) and Larry (Sandy) Moore, both of Tompkinsville, and Donald (Mary) Moore, Louisville; and two sisters Sue Copass and Patricia (Kenny) Jarvis, both of Louisville; and many in-laws, cousins, aunts and uncles.

   Cremation was chosen, and a Celebration of Life will follow at a later time.
